Kamran was born and raised in a small town in Northeastern Iran called Quchan. Taking care of farm animals was part of his daily life as a young child, which played a key role in his pursuit of veterinary medicine as his career.

He received his DVM from Urmia University in 1991. After graduation, he began working as a Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) faculty member. After working for four years at the veterinary teaching hospital at FUM, he started his postgraduate studies (Ph.D., combined general surgery residency) at Tehran University, Iran. In 2000, he completed a year of fellowship as part of his surgery residency at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, The Netherlands.

His career began in 2002 when he joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, FUM, as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. He was given his full Clinical Professor of Surgery title in 2015. In 2010, for a year, he joined the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, as a Research Associate Professor in the Burn and Wound Healing Laboratory, where he researched ACL (cruciate ligament) rupture in dogs. He has also made contributions to several high-impact factor veterinary medicine journals.

He took Canada’s Veterinary National Board exams in 2011 and passed them all, giving him the right to practice veterinary medicine in Canada. His areas of expertise include orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy, laparoscopy), internal medicine and dermatology.

He constantly learns new and more effective techniques to assist animals since he passionately believes in furthering his education. In addition to being endlessly passionate about his field and his patients, he also enjoys the great outdoors, cares deeply about the environment, and spends his free time hiking. He is also bilingual and has an excellent command of Persian and English.
